Smoke Detector Importance
Milford Fire Officials are reminding citizens of the importance of the use of smoke detectors in every house. Firefighters were called to the scene of a deadly house fire in Milford early on the morning of December 3 at 20 Brookdale Ave. Two Milford residents lost their life in this fire in a household where there was no operating smoke detectors. Captain Christopher Zak, spokesman for the Milford Fire Department "cautions all citizens to be alert, especially since we are coming into the winter months. We are concerned that because of the tough economic times that people are going to resort to alternative heating sources, Citizens are urged to have proper working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in their houses. If a Milford citizen does not have the ability to acquire a smoke or carbon monoxide detector, they are asked to contact the Milford Fire Department at (203) 878-5991 and a detector will be given to you free of charge. If anyone has concerns or questions regarding placement of detectors we would be more than happy to assist you in the correct placement." He also reminds everyone that "Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors are only as good as the power source. Remember to change your batteries twice a year (CHANGE YOUR CLOCKS..CHANGE YOUR BATTERIES)."
